Job Title: Telecom Specialist
Location: Albany, New York (On-Site)

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Telecom Specialist to support the design, implementation, integration, and troubleshooting of telecommunications and data network systems tied to electric transmission, distribution, metering, and other grid technologies. Our team is looking for a driven professional who can help advance long-term communications strategy, support modernization initiatives, and contribute to reliable solutions across critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, integrate, and troubleshoot telecommunications and data network systems for grid-related applications.
  • Support capital delivery construction activities, including new and existing substation projects, along with modernization and innovation initiatives.
  • Develop long-term strategies for telecom networks supporting substations, distribution system controls, meters, and other fixed and mobile devices.
  • Prepare documentation, punch lists, as-builts, closeout materials, and technical guidance while collaborating across engineering and support teams.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of related experience, or an associate’s degree with an additional 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience creating new ways to plan and operate communication systems using advanced analytics and emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • Expertise in some or all of the following: RF data communication systems, private and public LTE networks, fiber optic and microwave transport systems, leased wired and wireless services, and computer network routing/switching and cloud services.
  • Preferred Background: Telecommunications or telecommunications engineering experience
  • Project Focus: Supporting specialized programs involving the expansion and privatization of optical fiber networks used to connect electrical substations
  • Demonstrated capability to independently develop and direct small teams regarding project tasks and technical requirements, with strong programming, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting skills for communications hardware.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with GIS software
  • Knowledge of fiber optic cable routing and network design
